Nongpoh | September 22, 2025 — In a move aimed at strengthening support for farmers in rural areas, the HID Foundation Shillong today called on Meghalaya’s newly appointed Minister in charge of Agriculture and Tourism, Timothy D. Shira, to convey congratulations and highlight key issues affecting the farming community.
Led by its CEO, Jinisha D. Maiong, the HID Foundation delegation met the minister to discuss the need for enhanced government support to farmers, particularly those in remote villages, to boost agricultural productivity and improve livelihoods. The foundation, which focuses on initiatives to uplift rural farmers and strengthen social development, also promotes environmental sustainability through tree-planting campaigns across the state.
During the meeting, Maiong reminded the minister about the ongoing project funded by the North Eastern Council (NEC) for turmeric cultivation in Ri Bhoi District. The initiative has benefited a large number of farmers in the area, improving their incomes and agricultural practices.
As a gesture of goodwill and blessing for the minister’s new tenure, the HID Foundation CEO presented him with a traditional jainryndia and flowers.
The foundation expressed optimism that under Shira’s leadership, the state government would take further steps to address the pressing needs of farmers and provide them with opportunities for growth and development.
