Shillong, Oct 13: The Meghalaya High Court has directed the Superintendent of Police (SP) of East Khasi Hills District to provide police protection to a person for meeting his wife after a village dorbar allegedly prevented him entering the village.

The Single bench in its order issued on October 11, after hearing a petition filed by one Kamlising Mukhim of Mawlein village in East Khasi Hills District, said, “The Superintendent of Police is directed to allow the petitioner to go and meet his wife with all police protection.”

The SP was also directed to act on the FIR filed by the petitioner if any immediately.

During the hearing, counsel appearing on behalf of Mukhim informed that the wife of the petitioner is sick but he was not allowed to enter the house.

The bench also directed that notice be issued to the state government and other respondents to show cause as to why this instant petition should not be taken up for consideration or any other order or orders should not be passed as found deemed fit and proper.

However, petitioner’s counsel is directed to take necessary steps to serve the notice upon the other respondents within 2 days. The next hearing on the matter has been fixed after two weeks for counter affidavit and further order.
