High Court directs Meghalaya Govt to submit plan on rehabilitation centre

Shillong, July 1: The Meghalaya High Court has directed the state government to submit its plan for creation of rehabilitation centre in the state.

The order was passed on Monday by the division bench of Chief Justice Ajay Kumar Mittal and Justice HS Thangkhiew after hearing a PIL filed by the Meghalaya State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (MSCPCR) chairperson, Meena Kharkongor.

The Court also granted permission to the state counsel to file affidavit in terms of the order passed on June 7. Meanwhile, the matter was adjourned to July 24.

In its earlier orders, the bench had taken a strong note on the dangerous consequences of the use of drug and its uncontrolled monitoring.

It had earlier directed the authorities concerned to file status report on the action taken based on the action plan for demand reduction as formulated by the state as per the National Drug Policy. The state director general of police (DGP) was also directed to constitute a special task force (STF) for conducting surprise inspection.
