Shillong Nov 10: The HSPDP on Friday announced the election of office bearers of the party in North Shillong Constituency and assured of providing good and clean governance and unearths all corrupt practices.
The office bearers also include those from the women’s wing, and youth wing and they were felicitated by HSPDP chief, Ardent M. Basaiawmoit in the presence of HSPDP candidate, Alester N. Diengdoh, MDCs, Teilinia Thangkhiew, Samlin Malngiang, and other HSPDP leaders, besides senior advocate, Ganold Massar.
Hundreds of workers of the HSPDP North Shillong attended the gathering.
In his address, Basaiawmoit said that his party has chosen the path to enlighten and not to fool the people on many issues.
He also talked about his party’s strong determination to bring overall development and uplift the economy of the state.
Basaiawmoit also called upon the people to use wisdom and conscience before taking a stand on any issues or electing a public representative by emotions.
He also assured that the party would work to bring in change which will ensure safety and security of citizens including safety of women and children.
Basaiawmoit also spelled out the stand of the HSPDP to bring Meghalaya under the special provisions of Article 371 similar to Article 371 A and Article 371 G being accorded to Nagaland and Mizoram respectively.

Basaiawmoit also said that some people tried to portray that by demanding Article 371, the HSPDP wanted to abolish district councils.
“Look at Mizoram which got Article 371G, they still have district councils like the Chakma Autonomous District Council, Lai Autonomous District Council, and Mara Autonomous District Council,” Basaiawmoit said.
According to him, Article 371, would prevent Centre’s interference with regards to the laws made by the state government in matters related to their custom, practice and tradition, ownership of transfer of land and its resources, administration of law and criminal justice involving decisions according to their customary law, religious or social practices.
