Shillong, Mar 26: One Shankar Prasad was arrested after his wife was found dead in their residence in the city on Saturday evening.

The twenty-three-year-old Pooja Prasad, who originally hails from Bihar was found hanging in her in-laws’ house at Pynthorumkhrah, 6^th Furlong, police said on Monday.

She has a six-month old baby boy.

An FIR filed at Pastuer Police Beat House, aunty of the victim, alleged that her niece, who was married to Shankar in 2016, was tortured by her husband over dowry.

She also alleged that her niece had called her up overphone complaining of immense physical torture by her husband and her in-laws.

“I suspect that my niece was tortured to death by her in-laws and husband and now framed a story of suicide,” the FIR said.

Police informed that the husband has been arrested on Sunday. He has been booked under Section 498 (A) and 306 of the Indian Penal Code for allegedly harassing and abetting suicide.
