HYC asks Meghalaya to follow Assam’s example on land registration

Shillong, May 03: The Hynñiewtrep Youth Council (HYC) Raid Nongtung Circle today asked the Congress-led MUA-II government to follow a good example set by the Assam government by making it easier and simpler for people living along the Meghalaya-Assam border to register their land.
HYC Raid Nongtung Circle president, Hercules Suting said that people living along the Meghalaya-Assam border found it more convenient to register their land with Assam since the registration fee is cheap and revenue officials came to the spot to verify and survey the land for registration.

“However getting the land registered in Meghalaya has been an uphill task due to various procedures and exorbitant registration fee. This is why people are more inclined to get their land registered with Assam. In this way, Meghalaya keeps on losing away its territory to the neighbouring state,” Suting said, adding that Meghalaya should change its approach in this regard.
