HYC Ranikor Circle to hold rally against kidnapping of locals to Bangladesh

Shillong, July 10: The Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC) Ranikor Circle will hold a public meeting to demand for immediate release of Ricky Nongtnger, who was abducted allegedly by Bangladeshi miscreants.

Nongtnger, is a resident of Umsur village near Nongjri – an area rich in coal deposits – which is 25 km away from Ranikor Block. He was abducted by miscreants from his residence on Saturday night. Ranikor is about 121 km from here.

This is for the third time that residents of South West Khasi Hills district have been abducted in the past one year.

Last year, one Dinar Syiemlieh, a coal merchant was also abducted and released later.

This year two cases of abduction have been reported. On April 27, Dajied Syiemlieh was kidnapped by Bangladeshi miscreants and he was rescued on May 15 by Bangladeshi police. The youth is still in the custody of Bangladesh police.

Addressing media persons here on Monday, HYC Ranikor Circle vice-president, Ialam Rngaid said that the rally was being organized to condemn repeated incidents of kidnapping of residents of the area.

“We appealed to all the people and NGOs to extend their support in the demand for immediate release of Ricky,” he said.

He also lambasted the state government for its failure to set up a full-fledge police station at Nongjri.

Meanwhile, the HYC has also served a two-week deadline to the BSNL to make its mobile tower functional at Nongjri, so that people in the area can easily inform the authority when such crimes took place.

Meanwhile, police said preliminary investigation indicated that the unidentified miscreants who abducted Ricky also took away a cash of Rs 6,000 and one motorcycle (ML-05-2806).
