Shillong, Dec 4: The Hynñiewtrep Youths’ Council (HYC) has decided to stage a three-day hunger strike to pressurize the state government to implement its demands including introduction of Inner Line Permit (ILP).

The three-day hunger strike will be held at a parking lot near Additional Secretariat on December 7

Speaking to reporters here on Monday , HYC General Secretary Robertjune Kharjahrin, said that the hunger strike would be organized under the ‘Save Hynñiewtrep Mission’ as the state government was adamant to the 14-point demands raised by the Council including the demand to implement ILP to check influx.

The HYC also asked the state government to bring a resolution in the upcoming winter session of the state Assembly to implement its demands which include implementation of the inner-line permit, residential permit, cut-off year for non-indigenous residents, implementing the concept of voting at the place of origin, besides other mechanisms to check influx.

The HYC had organized a series of agitations in the past few months to demand from the state government to implement its demands

Kharjahrin said, the Council had also met various political parties and discussed with them the 14-point demands and threatened to campaign against candidates and political parties that do not include ILP in their manifesto.
