Shillong, Dec 5: NPP leader and two-time legislator from Songsak, Nihim D. Shira today said that a political revolution is taking place because the state needed a change.

“The NPP is growing day by day and we need a change since everything has been finished off by the Congress-led government. A political revolution is taking place we will have a new government next year to be led by the NPP. We will bring more leaders from different regions and work together and hope we will form the government next year,” Shira said while delivering a felicitation speech during the induction of former UDP leader from Umroi constituency, First Force Deki Ramsiej at the NPP office here.

Ramsiej was earlier the candidate of the UDP from Umroi constituency, but he left the party after the UDP decided to allot party ticket to Mangkara Pathaw from Umroi constituency.

Stating that everyone is fed up of the ruling Congress, Shira said that Congress MLA, Comingone Ymbon had also resigned from the Cabinet and he would join the NPP soon.

Meanwhile speaking to reporters, Shira said that even if chief minister Mukul Sangma contested from Songsak constituency against him, it would not be a threat for him because “I am the son of the soil.”

“Songsak constituency has suffered for the past 40 years because the constituency was represented by MLAs from outside. But I being the first son of the soil to get elected as MLA of Songsak constituency, people still love and support me. Anybody can come and compete against me in Songsak,” he said.

According to Shira, the NPP would win not less than 15 out of 24 seats in Garo Hills and around 19 to 20 seats from Khasi and Jaiñtia region.

“We will be the single largest party and will form the new government next year,” Shira said.
