ILP demand: CoMSO to observe April 23 as ‘black flag day’

Shillong, Apr 15: The Confederation of Meghalaya Social Organisations (CoMSO) has decided to observe April 23 as black flag day, to protest against the state government’s failure to implement the Inner Line Permit (ILP) system in the state.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the confederation led by the Hynñiewtrep Youth Council (HYC) on April 13.

Vice chairman of the CoMSO, Nikman Ch Marak in a statement issued on Monday informed that the black flag day will be observed by members of various organisations under this umbrella (CoMSO) across the state.

“The black flag day is the beginning of our agitation against the adamant attitude of the state government towards the demand for immediate implementation of the ILP to check influx and illegal immigrations into the state,” he said.

Marak recalled that the Deputy Chief Minister, Prestone Tynsong had assured the delegation of the confederation that the state government would take necessary action but nothing has been done in this regard till date.

He said that the confederation would soon announce other agitational programmes to further pressurise the government to implement the ILP in the state. “We appeal to the people of the state to wear black badges or put black flags on their vehicles as a mark of protest against the failure of the government,” Marak added.
