Shillong Dec 9: Activists of the Hynñiewtrep Youths’ Council continued their hunger strike on the second day on Friday and shouted slogans infront of the residence of Chief Minister, Mukul Sangma at Polo Hill here, demanding implementation of Inner Line Permit (ILP) to check influx.
The activists held the surprise protest when the chief minister was about to leave for the state Assembly to attend the first day of the three-day winter session, that began here on Friday.
The activists gathered infront of the chief minister’s residence for the protest at around 9:20 am.
They shouted slogans against the state government and chief minister for failing to address the 14-point of demands of the Council including the demand to implement ILP.
The winter session, also the last and final session of MLAs of the current ninth Assembly began on Friday.
Later security personnel arrived at the place dispersing the activists and took them to hospital for checkup. Later the activists were brought to Sadar police station, after which, police registered non-FIR cases and arrested them.
However in the evening, the activists altogerher 29 of them, were released on personal bond. After their release, police dropped them to the HYC office at Mawlai Nongkwar.
On the third day of the hunger strike on Saturday, the activists will assemble at a parking lot near additional secretariat here for the hunger strike.
HYC activists began the hunger strike on Thursday but they were removed from the parking lot in the evening by police who first took them in a bus to Mawngap police station and later at night, the activists were brought to the HYC office.
