Shillong November 25: The India Meteorological Department (IMD), through the Meteorological Centre Shillong on Tuesday organised the curtain raiser event in Shillong for the upcoming India International Science Festival 2025, celebrating the spirit of scientific innovation under the theme “Vigyan Se Samruddhi – For Aatmanirbhar Bharat.”
The event marked the beginning of nationwide engagements leading to IISF 2025, scheduled from 6th to 9th December at Panchkula in Chandigarh, Haryana.
It is an initiative of the Ministry of Earth Sciences in collaboration with various Science Ministries and Departments of the Government of India and Vijnana Bharati.
The event aims to showcase India’s scientific achievements, inspire young innovators, and strengthen the vision of Viksit Bharat.
Speaking at the event, Scientist & Head, Meteorological Centre Shillong, Thangjalal Lhouvum highlighted the transformative value of IISF for young researchers and advancing higher studies and deep scientific inquiry is essential.
Launched in 2015 under the vision of the Prime Minister, IISF serves as a platform that offers young researchers rare opportunities to interact with leading scientists and explore diverse domains — from the smallest quantum level to the frontiers of rocket science.
The programme included the screening of an IISF promotional video followed by an interactive presentation.
Students and teachers from Army Public School Shillong also participated in gaining exposure to the scientific themes and upcoming activities of IISF.
