Shillong, Jan 24: Independent MLA from Tikrikilla, Michael T. Sangma has resigned as member of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly.
He submitted his resignation letter on Wednesday which accepted by Assembly Speaker, Abu Taher Mondal.
Michael is set to be candidate of the ruling Congress from Tikrikilla constituency in the upcoming Assembly polls slated for February 27.
He was elected for the first time as Independent MLA from Tikrikilla in 2013 Assembly elections.
After Michael’s resignation, the 60-member Assembly has been reduced to 43 members.
The MLA of Mendipathar constituency, Marthon Sangma of the Nationalist Congress Party and Brigady Marak, Independent MLA from Bajengdoba have also resigned as members of the Meghalaya Assembly on Tuesday.
Marthon and Brigady will also be the Congress candidates from Mendipathar and Bajengdoba constituency respectively.
