Indigenous right activist, Ratika appointed as national convener of NPP Youth Front

Shillong, Sept 5: Indigenous rights activist, Ratika Yumnam has been appointed as national convener of the National People’s Party (NPP) youth front.
A statement issued here on Tuesday, said that NPP national president, Conrad K. Sangma has appointed Ratika Yumnam from Manipur to the post on August 29.

Ratika Yumnam has graduated with triple majors in media studies, psychology and literature from Christ University, Bangalore and completed her masters in South Asian Studies from the School of Interdisciplinary Area Studies, University of Oxford, UK in 2014.
Yumnam has been working as an indigenous rights activist, based in North East India for the past four years and actively involved in action research and advocacy in the areas of human rights and indigenous people in the Northeast region.
Over the years, Yumnam has helped in facilitating workshops and training programs for the youth in terms of peace building and conflict resolution, gender and power relations, human rights and sustainable development.
She has represented the voice of indigenous communities of Northeast in United Nations during the 5th UN Forum on Business and Human Rights at Geneva, Switzerland. She has been trained in several human rights programs such as the 25th Asia Pacific Human Rights and Peoples Diplomacy Training Program organized by DTP Australia at Sri Lanka; Feminist Leadership, Movement Building and Rights Institute – South Asia training program organized by CREA, Kathmandu, Nepal, Regional Capacity Building Program on United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, organized by Diplomacy Training Program and Asia Indigenous Peoples Pact, Chiangmai, Thailand.
Yumnam was also among the six indigenous rights activist from across the globe to be selected for scholarship by the Swiss Development Agency for the Business, Conflict & Human Rights Training, organized by Swisspeace at University of Basel, Switzerland.
