Shillong, March 20: Indus Towers, one of India’s largest telecom infrastructure providers, has inaugurated girls’ washroom facilities across 11 schools in Ri-Bhoi district under its flagship CSR initiative, Pragati, aimed at improving sanitation and school infrastructure.

The inauguration ceremony was held at Nehru Memorial Higher Secondary School and was attended by Andrew L. Myrthong, BDO of Umsning C&RD Block, and the in-charge Assistant Commissioner of Ri-Bhoi. The event was also live-cast to six additional schools where similar facilities have been developed.

Speaking on the occasion, Myrthong underscored the importance of proper sanitation in schools, noting that such initiatives help create a safe and comfortable learning environment, particularly for girls. He added that strengthening basic infrastructure contributes significantly to students’ overall wellbeing and appreciated the role of Indus Towers and its partners in supporting educational institutions in the region.

Rajender Gurung, Circle CEO – NESA, Indus Towers Ltd., highlighted the broader impact of the initiative, stating that access to safe and hygienic sanitation is vital for the dignity, health, and confidence of young girls. He reiterated the company’s commitment, through Pragati, to addressing critical infrastructure gaps that can affect girls’ education and promoting supportive learning environments in underserved areas.

The project has been implemented by Northeast Centre for Equity Action on Integrated Development (NEAID), which worked closely with local schools and communities to develop improved sanitation facilities. Indus Towers continues to collaborate with community partners to expand access to sanitation infrastructure across India.
