Jackfruit cuisine tasting event held

Shillong, Aug 11: An event for displaying and tasting of jackfruit was organized on Saturday here which also marked the culmination of a training of chefs and bakers.

It may be mentioned that the Meghalaya Institute of Entrepreneurship under the stewardship of the Governor’s Secretariat, Shillong had organized a half day interactive session with local restaurateurs and hotel owners on July 31.

The interaction resulted in the formulation and conduct of a training programme for 28 chefs and bakers of 15 local hotels, resorts, cafes and bakeries in the preparation of various dishes from jackfruit.

The training programme was organized by the Meghalaya Institute of Entrepreneurship and imparted by the Indian Institute of Hotel Management, Mawdiangdiang from August 9 to 11.

The training culminated with the display and taste of jackfruit themed dishes prepared by these chefs at Pinewood Hotel.

The programme was anchored by the Directorate of Food Processing, in which the best dishes, selected by an eminent panel of tasters were suitably recognized.
