Japan shows keen interest to develop Higher Education and Research in North East

Imphal [Manipur], May 09: North East India has a lot of cultural similarities with Japan. Further, North East India has a rich tradition of traditional knowledge whose potential has not been fully realized. In order to transform NE India and building a new India, education and scientific pursuits are very important. In order to realize this, IBSD took the initiative to explore the possibilities of a tie up with Japan in the field of higher education and research , said Prof Dinabandhu Sahoo, Director, Institute of Bioresources and Sustainable Development (IBSD), a National Institute of the Department of Biotechnology, Govt of India. He also said , no country has developed without application of Science and Technology , and Japan is the best example.

Mr Hiroshi Yoshino, Director, University of Tokyo India Office, delivered a lecture here today in the IBSD main campus, on “Strengthening India-Japan Collaboration – An opportunity for Higher Education and Research in Japan”. He showcased the various academic and research prorgrams in Japan and appreciated the lead taken by IBSD in promoting the Cherry Blossom Festival in India and proposed a Japanese education fair in the the North East this November , when the Cherry Blossoms will be in full bloom.
