Shillong, Nov 21: Jashiar Village in South West Khasi Hills District has been formally declared a Har Ghar Jal Village after achieving complete coverage of safe and adequate drinking water supply to all households, institutions, and Anganwadi centres under the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM).
The declaration follows an inspection conducted by Executive Engineer, PHE Mawkyrwat Division, Bah K. Nongbsaw, and District Project Manager, JJM SWKHD, Bah Steven Wahlang, as part of the department’s ongoing review to ensure that all villages in the district attain full water supply coverage by 21 November 2025.
The JJM scheme in Jashiar, completed in 2023 at a project cost of ₹43 lakh and handed over to the Village Water & Sanitation Committee (VWSC), was found to be functioning satisfactorily. The inspection confirmed that all 58 households, as well as schools and Anganwadi centres, are receiving regular and safe drinking water.
With this achievement, Jashiar joins the list of villages in the district that have fulfilled the mandated service level benchmarks under the Jal Jeevan Mission, reinforcing the State’s progress towards universal access to clean drinking water.
Community leaders and residents expressed appreciation to the Government of India for the implementation of the mission and conveyed gratitude to the PHE Mawkyrwat Division for ensuring timely execution and delivery of the project.
The Public Health Engineering Department reiterated its commitment to strengthening rural water supply systems across Meghalaya and ensuring sustainable, community-managed drinking water infrastructure in all villages.
