JOINT INDO-BANGLADESH ARMY CYCLING EXPEDITION FLAGGED OFF FROM AGARTALLA WITH FULL FANFARE

Shillong, March 22: A joint cycling expedition of Indian and Bangladesh Armies was flagged off on 22 March at Agartala by Lt Gen AS Bedi, YSM, VSM, GOC Gajraj Corps. The expedition will travel across India and Bangladesh from Agartala, Comilla, Dhaka and Jessore, culminating at Kolkatta after covering approximately 500 km over 12 days. During the expedition the team will also visit historical battle sites of the glorious liberation war of Bangladesh in 1971

Addressing the Joint Indo Bangladesh Army cycling team, Lt Gen AS Bedi, YSM, VSM, highlighted the shared history of both countries and stressed upon the friendly relations between both countries. He brought out that the introduction of joint adventure activities between both armies will result in increased mutual understanding and cooperation between both countries. The Flagging Off Ceremony was also marked by performance by Cultural Troupes from North East.

Earlier, the Bangladesh Army expedition team comprising of five offrs and ten soldiers had reached Agartala on 19 Mar. They visited various heritage sites near Agartala and also war memorials to honour the martyrs of 1971 Great Liberation war of Bangladesh fought in 1971.
