Juvenile Homes commissioned in Meghalaya

Shillong, July 7:  A Juvenile Homes was inaugurated on Saturday by Chief Justice of the High Court of Meghalaya, Justice Mohammad Yaqoob Mir at Mawkasiang in New Shillong Township.

On the occasion, a sensitization programme on Juvenile Justice Act was also organized by the High Court of Meghalaya in collaboration with the Social Welfare Department.

Speaking at the function, the Chief Guest, Justice Mir lauded the Social Welfare Department for putting in effort to complete the new Juvenile Homes which will have a direct impact on juveniles who are in need of care and protection.

“We are to ensure that a congenial atmosphere is provided to the children so that they can improve upon themselves and come back to the mainstream and be the future of our nation”, he added.

He also urged upon the public to become responsible citizens and extend all possible assistance to those who are in need of care and protection.

Earlier, Additional Chief Secretary (Social Welfare Department), H. Marwein read out a brief history of the Juvenile Homes.

Mawsynram MLA, H. M. Shangpliang, Judge and Chairman of the Juvenile Justice Committee, High Court of Meghalaya, Justice S. R. Sen, Chief Secretary, Y. Tsering, Director General of Police, S.B. Singh, Commissioner & Secretary (Social Welfare), T. Dkhar were among others present at the function.
