Shillong, Nov 27: KHADC chief executive member (CEM), Latiplang Kharkongor on Wednesday submitted a list of four MDCs to be the executive members (EMs) of the newly formed United Democratic Forum (UDF) executive committee.
The first list was submitted to the Governor, Tathagata Roy for his approval through the district council affairs department.
Kharkongor told reporters that the list of four EMs includes MDC of Mawphlang, Lamphrang Blah, Mylliem MDC, Ronnie V Lyngdoh, Laban MDC, Mitchel Wankhar and Umsning MDC, Macdalyne Mawlong.
He said the list was submitted to the District Council Affairs (DCA) department. According to him, the second phase which will have the full list of EMs, will be sent very soon.
Kharkongor said that he is not aware the reason behind the state government’s delay to notify his election to the post of the chief executive member (CEM) though the same was approved by the governor.
“The state government seems to still want to bring Administrator’s rule in the KHADC, but from the way I see it, the governor will not give his approval,†he said.
The UDF, which is having the support of 9 Congress, 3 NPP, 1 PDF and 2 Independents, was formed following the collapsed of the United Democratic Party (UDP)-led United Democratic Alliance executive committee under the leadership of Teiñwell Dkhar in the just concluded winter session.
Referring to the recent statement of the deputy chief minister, Prestone Tynsong, Kharkongor said it will be a big blessing for the autonomous district councils if they fall directly under the Governor.
“This would only mean that the state government is agreeing with our long pending demand to do away with Para 12 A from the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution. It will be a blessing, because at present, we have many Bills lying pending with the DCA for more than 35 years,†he said.
