Shillong, Apr 16: The Khun Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM) will conduct surprise checking to detect non-indigenous taxi drivers without labour licenses if the KHADC do not pay heed to its demand within two weeks.
This was informed by the KHNAM state youth wing president, Thomas Passah after a joint delegation of KHNAM and Hynñiewtrep Tourist Taxi Association (HTTA) met the KHADC chief PN Syiem for his intervention into the matter here on Monday.
Speaking to reporters, Passah said that the delegation has put its demand before Syiem for the district council to conduct a surprise checking against taxi drivers who are operating without obtaining the required labour licenses from the Council.
He however said if the council failed to comply with the demand within two weeks, the KHNAM would be compelled to conduct the surprise checking on its own keeping in mind the growing unemployment problem faced by local youths.
