KHADC chief ends deal with Jaïaw MDC

Shillong, July 13: Newly elected KHADC chief, Hispreaching Son Shylla has ended his agreement signed with KHNAM member, Adelbert Nongrum after he failed to honour the same by reaching late in the House during the election for the CEM post on Friday.

Addressing the House after being elected as new chief executive member here on Friday, Shylla said, “It has ended since you (Adelbert) have failed to honour the agreement. Due to your slackness you have reached the House after I was already declared elected.”

The member of the Khun Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM) had extended his support to the Shylla-led Khasi Hills Democratic Alliance (KHDA) based on several conditions which includes issue related to uranium mining.

Nongrum had demanded that KHDA to ensure that the Council should not grant No objective certificate (NOC) for the construction of roads which aim at facilitating mining of uranium in the region.

In his letter of support, he had also asked KHADC should demand the state government to induct the Syiem of Hima Mylliem as member of the High Level Committee constituted to find out a permanent solution for the relocation of Sweepers’ colony from Them Iew Mawlong.

Admitting that the issues raised by Nongrum are genuine, Shylla however said, “Had the election was conduted by voting, I would have lost your vote as you did not honour the agreement. However, we will still discuss them since these are important issues.”

The CEM’s statement also came after KHNAM member had earlier given a brief speech during the felicitation ceremony. “I made it clear that I have extended my support to you (Shylla)  based on conditions,” Nongrum said.

Demanding the new executive committee to come up with a proper employment policy in the Council, he said that the Council needs efficient employees and the trend of making job appointment based on favouritism should come to an end.
