Shillong, July 29: Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) Chief Executive Member, P.N. Syiem on Saturday inaugurated a cultural institute, Silver Rose Cultural Institute at Mawlai Umjaïur.
Regional Director, Indian Council of Cultural Relation (ICCR), North Eastern Zone, Dr. Munish Singh, Rangbah Shnong (headman) Mawlai Umjaïur, P. Khyriem, Sarita Lyngdoh, wife of former MLA of Mawlai, late F.S. Cajee were also present on the occasion.
In his speech, Syiem lauded the Silver Rose Cultural Institute which has come up to impart knowledge to the youth about the Khasi culture in order to further promote and preserve the rich culture.
He also expressed concern over the lack of proper policies that would guide the state government in its functioning for resolving various problems being faced by the people as well as policy that can promote culture in a befitting way.
Others who spoke include Dr Munish Singh, Silver Rose Cultural Institute Executive Director, Alexander N Lyngdoh and others.
Traditional songs and dance were performed on the occasion to mark the opening of the institute.
