Shillong, Jan 18: One person, who is the elder brother of former Congress MLA from Mawsynram, P. N. Syiem was injured when some persons stabbed him with a knife at Dangar village.

P.N. Syiem is also the MDC of Mawsynram and currently the Chief Executive Member of the KHADC.

According to police, three persons were named in an FIR.

SP (City), Spill Thamar said that the incident happened at around 10 pm on Wednesday night when Kynpham Syiem (49) along with his five colleagues was stopping at a place near St Peter’s Convent, Dangar to respond to the call of nature.

Suddenly, miscreants came and attacked Kynpham Syiem with a knife and stabbed him in the stomach and the cheek, leaving him critically injured.

He was admitted in a hospital here.

Two persons – Kyllangshngain Thongni and Pustirwel Disiar have allegedly involved in attacking Kynpham Syiem.

Police said that both of them have absconded. “We are making serious efforts to trace their whereabouts,” Thamar said said.

“We cannot say anything as of now. Investigation is on, and once the people involved are arrested, we will know the motive behind the incident, whether they already have personal enmity in the past, or the incident has anything to do with the election.” Spill Thamar said.
