Shillong, May 15: The Committee on KHAD (Village Administration) Bill constituted by the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) will convene a meeting with traditional heads next week.
This was informed by the leaders of the Synjuk Ki Nongsynshar Shnong Ka Bri U Hynniewtrep (SNSBH) after a tripartite meeting called by the state government here on Tuesday.
“The deputy chief executive member of the Council Teilinia Thangkhiew, who is heading the committee, has told us that she would be convening a meeting on this regard on Tuesday next,†SNSBH general secretary RL Blah told reporters.
On the other hand, SNSBH president Werlock Kharshiing informed that the KHADC will be coming up with a new village administration Bill.
The KHADC has constituted the Committee to look into the Bill, which seeks to empower traditional headmen after the Governor Ganga Prasad had returned it with a message that “future proposals be confined to the provisions of the Sixth Scheduleâ€.
“The KHADC will come up with a new Bill by taking into consideration the points raised by the Ministry of Home Affairs,†he said while informing that it was also decided that the district council will also consult the DCA department before finalising the Bill.
Earlier after the meeting, chief minister Conrad K Sangma said that the KHADC is working on the matter relating to the VAB and will be coming up with certain points.
“Once those are ready they will be having a discussion with the government so we will be waiting for that,†he told reporters.
