Shillong, Feb 4, 2026: Officials of the KHADC Green Tech Foundation, led by Chairman H. Bansiewdor Nonglang, on Wednesday hosted a visit to review and discuss ongoing and proposed ecotourism infrastructure projects in the district.
During the visit, officials highlighted several initiatives aimed at promoting sustainable tourism while ensuring active participation of local communities. The projects focus on developing infrastructure that safeguards natural landscapes and wildlife habitats, while creating employment and engagement opportunities for local youth in eco-tourism-related activities.
Representatives of the foundation stressed the importance of community involvement at every stage of project planning and implementation. They informed that clear guidelines and structured mechanisms are being put in place to ensure the initiatives remain environmentally sustainable and economically beneficial for local residents.
The foundation also plans to integrate education and skill development programmes for young people, enabling them to take an active role in managing and benefitting from ecotourism sites. Officials emphasised that transparency, careful planning, and effective management are essential for the long-term success of the projects.
The visit concluded with discussions on future plans, including expanding protected ecotourism areas and providing greater practical exposure and training for local communities, particularly youth, in eco-tourism management and conservation practices.
