Shillong, Oct 24: During the ongoing session of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) at Dorbar Synrai, Mawsynram MDC Bah Alvin Sawkmie raised questions regarding the existence, status, and management of Council Assets, seeking clarity on which assets have been allocated to villages, which remain under the Council, and which are unaccounted for.
In response, Executive Member for Council Assets, Pynkhrawboklin Kharjahrin, stated that information regarding several parts of the Council is incomplete, as only a portion of assets has been officially documented by the Dorbar. He added that EMs themselves do not have full knowledge of all assets, since many are yet to be formally recorded in official records.
Expressing difficulty in pursuing further inquiries due to the incomplete information, Bah Alvin highlighted the challenges posed by the lack of comprehensive documentation. Other MDCs, including Bah Ricky Shullai (Laban), Bah Titus Chyne (Nongialam, Liang Pyrshah), and Kong Grace Mary Kharpuri, also raised concerns about transparency and accountability in the management of Council Assets.
The discussion underscored the pressing need for systematic documentation, verification, and increased awareness of unrecorded Council Assets to ensure proper management and accountability across the Khasi Hills region.
