Shillong, May 1: The Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) will soon examine a notification issued by the State government to the autonomous district councils (ADCs) for implementing the Meghalaya Building Bye-Laws.

Informing this after a meeting of the executive committee here on Wednesday, Executive Member Paul Lyngdoh said that the Council cannot frame the building byelaws based on the notification issued by the State government as it has many complications.

“The department of town committees, land, elaka and others will meet in the coming week to formulate the stand of the Council on this matter. We will then take it up with the state government because we cannot frame the building byelaws based on this notification,” Lyngdoh said.

According to him, the Meghalaya Building Bye-Laws, 2011 has only mentioned about municipal and scheme areas.

The notification issued by the Principal Secretary of the Urban Affairs Department on February 1 this year has notified the three ADCs – KHADC, JHADC & GHADC to implement the building bye-laws in areas outside municipalities.

At the same time, the Meghalaya Urban Development Authority (MUDA) was also notified as the authority for giving building permissions for areas under municipal areas and scheme areas.

“The public desirous for applying building permission in areas outside municipal limits may approach either of the above authorities (MUDA or ADCs) for obtaining their sanction of building permission, occupancy certificates, etc,” the notification stated.
