KHADC’s Langrin constituency will go to bye election on Feb 28

Shillong, Jan 22: The state cabinet has approved the calendar for holding the bye-election to Langrin constituency of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) in a meeting chaired by chief minister, Conrad K Sangma on Wednesday.

The Langrin seat fell vacant after the death of United Democratic Party (UDP) MDC, Nasar Marwein on October 28 last year.

At present the KHADC has 29 members following the demise of Marweiñ.

Deputy Chief Minister, Prestone Tynsong told reporters after the cabinet meeting that the polling will be held on February 28 and counting of votes on March 3.

Tynsong said that the model code of conduct will come into force from February 17 and it will be effective only within Langrin constituency.

A notification for conducting the bye-election will be held on February 17, the day when filing of nominations will also begin.

The bye election will be conducted by the District Council Affairs department of the state government.

He informed that the draft electoral rolls will be published on January 28, with the last date for filing of claims and objections on February 12 and the disposal of claims and objections on February 13.

The publication of final electoral rolls is on February 15.

The last date of filing of nomination is on February 19 before 3 pm and scrutiny of nomination papers will take place on the same day after 3 pm.

The last date for withdrawal of nominations is on February 20 and the finalisation and publication of valid nominations and allocation of symbols to candidates is on February 22.
