Shillong, Mar 23: Lone Khun Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM) legislator from North Shillong Adelbert Nongrum on Friday slammed the Meghalaya Rural Bank (MRB) for its alleged failure to comply with the state’s reservation policy.
“The MRB has inducted 2 ST, 4 SC, 8 OBC, 18 General candidates for the post which most of the new recruit are from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar,†Nongrum said while moving a zero hour notice in the Assembly here on Friday.
Urging the state government to take up the matter seriously, he said that the bank has followed its own reservation policy without complying with the state’s reservation policy of 40 Khasi & Jaintia, 40 Garo, 3 for other tribes and 17 for general.
There around 94 branches of the MRB spread across the state.
Accusing the bank of recruiting people with no knowledge about the state including local language, Nongrum said, “How do we expect the new recruit from outside the state to communicate and develop a relationship with the people since their duty is to help the people in far flung areas of the state.â€
According to him, earlier the recruitments were made mandatory for MRB aspirants to know how to read, learn and write local language. “This is a concern for everyone as in the long run, it will also affect the business of the bank which the state government has a stake of 15 per cent,†he stated.
Meanwhile, the chief minister assured to have the matter examined and will also submit his reply on this regard.
