KHNAM Youth Wing seeks termination of SDMA consultant

Shillong, Jan 14: The Khun Hynñiewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM) has demanded from the state government to terminate the present consultant of the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) alleging that his appointment was “illegal” and that fresh advertisement should be issued for filling up the said post.

In a letter to the SDMA executive director on Monday, KHNAM state youth wing president Thomas Passah said, “…it is requested that a fresh advertisement be floated so that deserving youth of the state be appointed to the post of consultant.”

After submitting the memorandum, Passah told reporters that the demand was based on the RTI findings of the state youth wing which questioned the way the present consultant, Surajit Bordoloi was appointed by the authorities concerned.

He said that RTI findings revealed that Bordoloi had submitted his application to the SDMA office on September 30, 2012, one year before the advertisement for the post of consultant was notified on September 17, 2013.

“Interestingly, the SDMA has notified the advertisement for the post only in the office notice board. We feel it was an act of depriving the local eligible youth to apply for this job,” Passah said.

He further said it was also surprising to note that the SDMA in its reply to the RTI had informed that the office had received only one application for the post.

The KHNAM youth wing also demanded for an immediate institution of an independent inquiry to ensure action is taken against those responsible for such illegal practice.

“If there was no involvement from the department concerned then how is it possible that a person who also is not from the state could know about such a vacancy,” he said.
