Shillong, Dec 1: The Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) Mawkyrwat Circle on Saturday launched a new ambulance service and inaugurated the 3rd Maitshaphrang Under-16 Football Tournament 2025–26 at Rowell Lyngdoh Stadium, Mawlangwir, South West Khasi Hills district, under the theme “Say No to Drugs.”
The tournament aims to provide a constructive platform for young footballers while promoting sports as a healthy alternative to drug abuse and substance addiction among the youth.
The opening match saw Pynnoh Riwar Sports Academy secure a narrow 1–0 win over Mawten Sports Club, with the decisive goal scored by Dangiaipyrkhat Khardewsaw in the 52nd minute.
As part of the programme, a new ambulance service dedicated to supporting the community during medical emergencies was officially launched. The vehicle was inaugurated by Samla Biangbor Paliar, Vice President of the KSU Central Body, in the presence of former Ranikor SDO Bah H.S. Diengdoh; KSU SWKHD President Samla Forwardman Nongrem; Mawlangwir village secretary Bah Polin Lyngdoh; and KSU Mawkyrwat Circle President Samla Rutherford Lyngdoh, along with elders and members of the Union.
The event marks another step by KSU Mawkyrwat in encouraging youth engagement in sports and strengthening grassroots social welfare initiatives within the district.
