SHILLONG, Jan 21: A young woman from Meghalaya was rescued from a brothel in Delhi by the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) Delhi Unit after she was trafficked and assaulted. The woman had travelled to Delhi in search of employment but was allegedly coerced into the flesh trade.
President of the KSU Delhi Unit, Marbiang Khongwir, said the organisation received a distress call from the victim’s sister, who informed them that her sister was being harassed and assaulted by a group of men. Acting swiftly, the KSU Delhi Unit alerted the police, following which the woman was rescued.
“The accused was running a brothel and assaulted her when she refused to work. He even threatened to kill her,” Khongwir said.
The accused has been taken into police custody, while the KSU Delhi Unit is coordinating with the authorities to ensure the woman’s safe return to Meghalaya.
The KSU Delhi Unit has urged the government to take strict action against those involved in human trafficking to prevent such incidents in the future. Khongwir also appealed to the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities.
