Shillong, Sept 14: The Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) will hold a sit-in demonstration next week, as a mark of protest against the recent killing of a Khasi villager at a village in Ri Bhoi district bordering Assam.

In a statement issued here on Friday, KSU general secretary Donald V Thabah said that the central executive committee (CEC) of the Union has decided to stage the sit-in protest to be held at the parking lot near Additional Secretariat on September 19 from 11 am to 3 pm.

“We expressed strong protest against the killing of Tyngshain Mukhim recently at Khlieh Umwang and demanded that the accused be handed over to the Meghalaya police,” he said.

Mukhim was assaulted by one Romesh Thapa on September 9. He later succumbed to his injuries on September 12. Meanwhile, Thapa was arrested by the Assam police despite an FIR lodged with the Ri Bhoi police.
