Nongpoh, Dec. 8: Lahdhi FC emerged champions of the LFC Umkynsier Football Tournament 2025 after defeating Umkynsier SC in a thrilling final decided by a tie-breaker at Umkynsier Football Ground on Saturday. The tournament was organised by the Lahdhi Football Club (LFC) Umkynsier under the leadership of club president Bah John Makri, and was initiated in July 2025. A total of eight teams from the Umkynsier area of Ri-Bhoi District participated.
Both finalists displayed exceptional skill and strong defensive play, ending regulation time with a 1–1 draw. The match proceeded to a penalty shootout, where Lahdhi FC held their nerve to secure victory and lift the title. The champions received a cash prize of ₹10,000 along with the winners’ trophy.
The closing ceremony was graced by Bah Markus Marten, a prominent community leader renowned for his contributions to social development, who attended as the chief guest. Also present were Bah Constant Makri, Rangbah Shnong (Village Head) of Pathardharo Umkynsier, club officials, sports enthusiasts and residents from the area.
In his address, Bah Markus Marten praised the organisers for promoting sports culture among youth and stressed the importance of community support in nurturing young talent. He expressed optimism that such initiatives will help young players from the region showcase their potential and bring honour to the community and the state.
