Shillong, Nov 4: Laitkor SC delivered a commanding performance to thrash Mawten SC 10–1 in the first quarterfinal of the Meghalaya Women’s State League 2025 at the SSA Stadium, First Ground, Polo, on Tuesday morning.
The star of the day was the prolific Iaraplang Nongrum, who netted a brilliant hat-trick with goals in the 2nd, 12th and 44th minutes. Ibashisha Khongwet (49’, 63’) and Inrila-i-dor Khongthaw (55’, 58’) added two goals each, while Ideibanrishisha Kharpan (26’), Ibakordor Wahlang (40’) and Sukrilin L Marshillong (90’+1) also found the net.
Mawten SC managed a consolation goal through Lavinia Lyngkhoi, who struck a superb long-range effort in the 72nd minute.
Laitkor, representing the Shillong Sports Association, topped Group A in the league stage and have now secured their fifth consecutive victory, underscoring their status as tournament favourites. Their dominance was evident throughout, with sharp passing, excellent ball control, and effective use of the wings through standout winger Marbarin Nongrum.
Their defence also held firm whenever tested by Mawten, who qualified as the fourth-placed team from Group B under the Mawkyrwat District Sports Association.
Iaraplang, who has been in sensational form all season, was named Player of the Match and received her award from Meghalaya Football Association Vice-President Cliff Nongrum.
The remaining three quarterfinals will be played tomorrow in a triple-header at the same venue:
Na Rympei Football Academy vs Bright Future SSCC at 10 AM
Pay For Right Football Academy vs Mawlum Tyrsad SC at 1 PM
Diengshynrum SC vs Jakrem SC at 4 PM
These fixtures are expected to be closely contested. Mawlum Tyrsad topped Group B and will face Group A runners-up PFR, while Na Rympei and Bright Future finished third in Groups A and B respectively. Diengshynrum were Group C winners, with Jakrem finishing as Group B runners-up.
