Shillong, Nov 28: Shillong Lajong delivered a commanding 8-0 victory over Mawlynrei in the SSA Champions Cup 2025 at First Ground, Polo, with Riborlang L Lyngkhoi registering his second consecutive hat-trick to lead a dominant performance on Thursday.

In the later Group B match, Laitkyrhong came from behind to secure a 5-2 win over Mawkriah West.

For Lajong, the goals were scored by Riborlang (37’, 44’, 55’), Emanbha Marbaniang (13’, 61’), Deibormame Tongper (65’, 89’) and Babysunday Marngar (73’). The emphatic win surpassed their earlier 6-0 victory over Mawkriah West, where Riborlang had also struck a treble. With six goals so far, he is currently the tournament’s leading scorer.

Laitkyrhong’s goals came via Wallamsuk Nongkhlaw (24’, 62’), Learningstar Warlarpih (30’, 84’) and Dibinroy Nongspung (54’). Mawkriah West replied through Dibarson Kharbudnah (11’) and Enestar Malngiang (63’).

A superb curling free-kick from Emanbha opened the scoring for Lajong, and though Mawlynrei briefly believed they had equalised, the effort was ruled offside. Despite fielding experienced loan players permitted for lower division teams, Mawlynrei struggled to contain Lajong’s relentless pace and finishing.

Riborlang scored twice before half-time, capitalising on a rebound and then finding space in the box. He completed his hat-trick early in the second half after beating the goalkeeper with a composed finish. The goals kept flowing, with Emanbha doubling his tally, Babysunday powering one past the defence, and substitute Deibormame scoring twice.

The second match of the day was more competitive, with both sides battling strongly after losing their respective opening fixtures. Mawkriah took an early lead, but Laitkyrhong responded quickly to turn the game around and maintained control despite late pressure.

After Thursday’s results, Lajong top Group B with 6 points, followed by Nongkseh and Laitkyrhong tied on 3 points each, while Mawlynrei and Mawkriah West are yet to open their account.

Tomorrow’s Fixture
Group A: Meghalaya Police vs Mawkasiang at 2:30 PM.
