Shillong, Oct 10: Langsning had to dig deep but managed to hold off a determined Laitkor side for a 2–1 victory in the Shillong Premier League (SPL) 2025 at the SSA Stadium, First Ground, Polo, here this evening.

Early goals by Nelson Rymbai (14’) and Chusrang Sangma (18’) gave Langsning a flying start, but Laitkor mounted a spirited comeback in the second half, pulling one back through Fridison Wanniang (55’).

The win propelled Langsning to the top of the SPL 2025 table with 17 points, two ahead of Shillong Lajong and Mawlai, though both those teams still have a game in hand. Laitkor, meanwhile, remain seventh, tied on 8 points with Mylliem but ahead on head-to-head advantage.

Early Brilliance Amid the Downpour

The rain began just as the match kicked off, but Langsning initially adapted best to the slippery surface. After missing several chances in his previous outing, Nelson Rymbai made amends with a composed finish—his powerful strike beat Laitkor goalkeeper Hukumskhem Marbaniang, clipped the crossbar, and crossed the line despite a desperate touch.

Just four minutes later, Chusrang Sangma doubled the advantage with a low left-footed effort that skidded off the wet turf and into the back of the net.

The conditions worsened soon after, creating pools of water across the field. Laitkor, however, began finding their rhythm before halftime, with Sandy Kharkongor’s shot forcing a fine save from Langsning keeper Rajat Paul Lyngdoh. Moments later, Shanborlang Nonglait blasted a free-kick wide from a promising position.

Laitkor Fight Back, Langsning Hold Firm

As the weather cleared after the break, Laitkor came out stronger. Fridison Wanniang gave them hope with a well-taken header from close range, setting up a tense final half-hour.

The match’s most spectacular moment came in the 73rd minute when Giovanni Syiemiong executed a stunning bicycle kick that was headed goalward, only to be cleared off the line by a Langsning defender.

Both sides pressed relentlessly, but their eagerness led to a frantic pace and wasted opportunities. Langsning’s determination to secure three points, matched by Laitkor’s push for a draw, made for an absorbing contest under unpredictable conditions.
