Lapang lays foundation stone for construction of Seng Khasi Riwar Mihngi Cultural Hall

Shillong, Jan 9: Chief Adviser to the State government, D.D. Lapang laid a foundation stone for construction of Seng Khasi Riwar Mihngi Cultural Hall at Pynursla, East Khasi Hills district on Tuesday.

Addressing the gathering as chief guest, Lapang, lauded the Seng Khasi Riwar Mihngi for their continuous efforts in having a cultural hall and acknowledged the contributions of eminent personalities like Dibir Lyngdoh, Captain William Sangma and others in the creation of the state of Meghalaya.

He also made a mention about the influence of Maham Sing in Khasi culture and his important role in the Seng Khasi.

With the laying of the foundation stone, Lapang hoped that the construction of the cultural hall would help in preserving the Khasi culture and traditions.

President of Riwar Mihngi, while delivering the welcome speech gave a short introduction of Riwar Mihngi and stated that construction of the cultural hall would start soon. The cultural hall would help to hold meetings and other activities of the Seng Khasi.

General Secretary, Seng Khasi Riwar Mihngi gave a short report on the milestone of Seng Khasi Riwar Mihngi and informed that the Seng Khasi Riwar Mihngi was established on February 26, 1989.

The Seng Khasi Riwar Mihngi has nine committees providing services to the people.

According to a census of the committee, among 57,570 inhabitants, there are 29,053 people who still follow the Khasi indigenous faith.
