Shillong, Nov 27: Expressing confidence that the outcome of the upcoming Assembly elections in 2018 would go in favour of the National People’s Party (NPP) and form the government, national president and Tura MP, Conrad Kongkal Sangma said that the decision by state Congress president, D.D. Lapang not to contest the upcoming polls was a sign, that the Congress would be rejected by the people of Meghalaya.
Addressing the 1st general conference of the Dadenggre Block of NPP at Tebronggre village on November 25 that saw an attendance of over 5000 supporters of the NPP from across Dadenggre Assembly constituency, Conrad expressed confidence that the outcome of the Assembly elections to be held in 2018 would go in favour of the NPP which would form the government.
“The decision by Dr. Lapang not to contest the upcoming elections was a sign, among many, that the Congress would be rejected by the people of Meghalaya and ultimately face defeat,” Conrad stated.
Conrad also said that “careful selection” of candidates based upon the criteria of qualification, experience and genuine concern for the welfare of the people would go a long way in ensuring success for the NPP in the upcoming elections.
The NPP national president also congratulated the Dadeng Block Committee for organising the conference and expressed happiness at the growth of the party which he attributed this to the strong foundations laid by the founder of the party late Purno A. Sangma.
“These foundations were based on the welfare and protection of the rights of tribals, religious minorities including Christians and the people of North East in general.
MDC and former CEM of the GHADC, Denang T. Sangma, criticised the present GHADC EC led by Boston Marak for its inability to pay the salaries of employees for a period of over 15 months now.
In comparison, during the 17 months tenure of the NPP-led EC in GHADC, he claimed that the EC had been able to release salaries for a period of 12 months out of 17.
Denang also thanked the voters of Dadenggre for having elected James K. Sangma as MLA who brought up many issues affecting not just Garo Hills but the entire state in the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly and urged the people to continue supporting James in the upcoming elections.
James thanked all leaders who had attended the conference, office bearers of the Dadeng NPP Block and the people of Tebronggre village who had organised and hosted the conference along with all supporters.
