Shillong Apr 8: Former Meghalaya Chief Minister, D.D. Lapang said that Congress president, Rahul Gandhi is yet to be a matured leader to become the Prime Minister, even as he maintained that it was he who should predict whether Narendra Modi will again become the Prime Minister.

Lapang, the former Congress leader and now the leader of the National People’s Party (NPP) said that he has not done any survey to know whether Modi has performed well.

“I have not done any survey on his (Modi) performance. If his performance is bad he will not be the Prime Minister. But it is not me who should predict because the process of choosing the Prime Minister is after the results of the elections,” Lapang said.

When asked to compare between Congress president, Rahul Gandhi and Modi for the post of Prime Minister, Lapang said that Gandhi is yet to be a matured leader.

Meanwhile Deputy chief minister and NPP leader, Prestone Tynsong said that his party would continue to oppose the Citizenship Amendment Bill and would not comprise the issue with the BJP.

The BJP has made it clear that it would bring the bill in Parliament if voted to power in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls and reiterated its stand in the election manifesto.

“We will fight against this Bill. The BJP is clear in its decision and we are also very clear in our stand. We will not comprise with the BJP on this issue,” Tynsong said.

Asked about the Prime Ministerial candidate, Tynsong said that there are other national figures too, not just two people (Gandhi and Modi).

Tynsong said that the NPP would win from three to four Lok Sabha seats in the Northeast in this election including the Tura Lok Sabha constituency and Jemino Mawthoh of the United Democratic Party (UDP) from Shillong Lok Sabha seat.

The NPP has put up candidates in some Lok Sabha constituencies in Manipur, Meghalaya, and Assam, besides contesting the Assembly elections in Arunachal Pradesh.
