Shillong, July 5: The Jaintia Students’ Movement (JSM) has demanded the state government to consider creation of a new civil sub division in Laskein under West Jaintia Hills District.
In a memorandum to the chief minister Conrad K Sangma here on Thursday, JSM president Leningstar Rymbai said that the Laskein block deserved to be upgraded into a full fledged civil sub-division.
“The villages under the Laskein block are located in far flung areas and people have to spend their money, energy and time to travel to Jowai for their official works, which could have been avoided if there is the office of the civil sub-division in Laskein area,†he said.
According to him, the block covers around 100 villages with a population of nearly one lakh people. Besides, he said the block is also catering to villages like Khatkasla, Psiar, Moolaber which are along the disputed border areas with Assam.
Meanwhile, the JSM also demanded the state government to immediately set up a police outpost in Psiar, Huroi and Lakadong areas besides establishment of a government college in East Jaintia Hills District.
