LJP says Govt closes its eyes on unemployment to local youth in industries

Shillong, Nov 2: The Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) has slammed the Congress-led government in Meghalaya for closing its eyes on unemployment problem, and decided to conduct a study and research to find out the main cause of not giving employment to local youths in industries set up in the State.
In a statement issued here on Thursday, Meghalaya LJP chief general secretary, D.K. Gupta said that the LJP state president after visiting many villages in the districts of Khasi, Jaintia and Ri Bhoi has lamented the worst situation being faced by the youth in the State.
“Unemployment is a predominant problem that exists in Meghalaya. The problem is not because the State does not have employment opportunities, but it is evidently due to the negligence of the State Government. Though there are many industries in the State like Khasi, Jaintia and Ri Bhoi districts, the present government has chosen to close its eyes on this unemployment problem, and did not focus on welfare of the youth,” Gupta said
The LJP also alleged that the present government headed by chief minister, Dr Mukul Sangma was doing nothing in this regard and intentionally tried to avoid the sons and daughters of the soil.
“Agreement was made by the Meghalaya government with these big business houses to provide employment as per the Industrial policy of 1997. A commitment letter was received by the Government from these big business houses to employ local youths and to restrict these private business houses to hire people from outside the state in running their industries,” he said.
To provide job opportunities to the youth of the State especially those who are qualified or non-qualified, the LJP asked the government to strictly abide and enforce the memorandum of understanding signed with these business houses.
“The State Executive Committee of the LJP has taken a decision to study and to do research to find out the main cause of unemployment of local youths in the aforesaid business houses,” he said.
