Shillong Mar 19: Retired Indian Forest Service (IFS) officer, T.H.S. Bonney filed his nomination papers as candidate of the Khun Hynñiewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM) from Shillong Lok Sabha constituency for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls to be held on April 11.
Bonney, a 1985 batch IFS officer, quit his job in 2005 and plunged into active politics in the run-up to the Meghalaya assembly elections in 2008.
In the 2008 Assembly elections, the former IFS officer unsuccessfully contested as candidate of the erstwhile Meghalaya Democratic Party (MDP) from Sohïong constituency in 2008, and got 182 votes.
After filing his nomination papers, Bonney said that he decided to contest the Lok Sabha elections after seeing the plight of the people in almost all rural areas under Shillong parliamentary seat.
He also slammed the present and past governments for lack of development in all sectors in the state.
Bonney said that he had toured more than 600 of 2000 villages and found that the state of education in the state is deplorable, adding that if the education system in the state is not changed, there is no hope of improvement.
“If elected as Member of Parliament, my focus will be on rural areas,†he said.
Bonny will fight against the present Lok Sabha MP from Shillong of the Congress, Vincent H. Pala and United Democratic Party candidate, Jemino Mawthoh.
