Shillong Mar 27: The Returning Officer for Shillong Lok Sabha constituency will decide the fate of two candidates for Shillong Lok Sabha constituency on Thursday.
The Returning Officer, Abhishek Bhagotia, had received a complaint that Justice Kharbasanti of the CPI has not paid some dues to a bank, and another complaint was lodged against T.H.S. Bonney of the Khun Hynñiewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM) by the party’s president Pyndapborthiaw Saibon, urging the Returning Officer not to consider Bonney as the candidate of the party.
Bhagotia said that Bonney has submitted his reply on Wednesday and Kharbasanti is yet to reply.
Bhagotia said that a decision would be taken on Thursday in both cases.
Bonney was nominated as the candidate by KHNAM legislator from North Shillong, Adelbert Nongrum.
Nongrum claimed to have been elected as KHNAM president during a general convention, held in August last year.
Saibon, was however re-instated as KHNAM president following a Meghalaya High Court order on March 20.
Saibon said that the party would not field any candidate from Shillong, adding that in view of the court order, he, president of the party, has the power to sign forms A and B, which are related to allotting of party ticket to aspirants.
He said that with the coming of this court order, forms A and B, with which party ticket was allotted to Bonney, have become null and void.
