Magisterial inquiry into labourers’ death due to electrocution in North Garo Hills

Shillong, July 31: A magisterial enquiry was ordered into the death of five labourers who were electrocuted recently in North Garo Hills district of Meghalaya.

In an order issued on Tuesday, North Garo Hills District magistrare, Sibhi C Sadhu said, “In the interest of justice, 1st class magistrate, Tangchiring K Sangma is directed to conduct a detailed magisterial enquiry into the incident and submit the report within 30 days.”

Five labourers who were engaged in road construction at Chota Miapara lost their lives after being electrocuted while five others were injured.

The incident took place at around 4.30 pm on July 25.

It was reported that the five labourers died on the spot after a cement mixer machine touched a 22 KV power line. The labourers were engaged in a pathway construction.
