Shillong, Feb 28: East Khasi Hills district police on Friday arrested one person for his alleged involvement in the killing of his co-worker.

East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police, Vivek Syiem informed that they received information at 10:20 am from the owner of Trattoria Restaurant, Central Ward Barik Lachumiere, Batskhem Suting that one of his lady staff was suspected of being murdered on the ground floor of the restaurant.

Immediately a team from Sadar police station rushed to the spot along with senior officers.

Subsequently, the FSL Crime Scene Unit was deployed and an investigation into the case was started. The victim was identified as Damonica Laloo (41) of Lawsohtun working as a cleaner in the restaurant.

Based on evidence collected with the help of FSL and CSU teams and preliminary interrogation, the investigating team swiftly zeroed in upon the accused, Sunai Singh (42) who is a co-worker in the restaurant.

“The person has admitted to the crime and divulged that the motive behind it was an argument on Thursday at about 11 pm after consuming alcohol emanating from an affair they were having,” Syiem said.

According to the Superintendent of Police, he then tried to conceal the body beside the transformer of KJP Assembly Conference Centre.

The murder weapon, a hollow iron pipe, has been recovered and seized.

Syiem said that further investigation is underway to establish all the links to the crime.

Inquest over the body has been conducted at the place of occurrence. The body has been shifted to NEIGRIHMS Hospital for post-mortem examination on Saturday.

A case has been registered at Sadar Police Station and the accused has been arrested and will be produced before court.
