SHILLONG, NOV 28: A man identified as Leiki Rymbai has been convicted and sentenced to 25 years of rigorous imprisonment for sexually assaulting a minor, under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
The judgment was delivered by B. Khriam, Special Judge, POCSO, East Jaintia Hills District, who, in the court order, stated that the accused has been found guilty under Section 6(1) of the POCSO Act and sentenced to 25 years of rigorous imprisonment along with a fine of ₹1,00,000.
The case was originally registered at the Khliehriat Women Police Station in 2023, and the investigation was led by WPSI JM Kurbah.
In addition to the main sentence, the court also imposed one year of imprisonment and a fine of ₹5,000 on the convict under relevant provisions.
