Manipur government must revise wages for Safai Karamcharis

Imphal,  Nov 13 : National Commission for Safai Karamcharis member on Wednesday urged the Manipur  government to revise wages of skilled and unskilled labourers in the state.

 She also favoured that all Safai Karamcharis should avail EPF facilities with 12 per cent of their wages and the local body should add the same amount, she said

Diler said that the conditions of the workers should be looked into so that they will have a good income.

Diler also interacted with Chairperson, Thoubal Municipal Council,   Meneka and  Thoubal district Deputy Commissioner  N. Bandana  and deliberated on issues related to  Safai Karamcharis and Manual Scavengers .

Stating that  the plight of the Safai Karamcharis is not good as they don’t have  regular pay and they get low wages, Diler  said the state’s rate for skill labour @ Rs 273 per day and for unskilled labour @ Rs 225 per day were too low and the rate  must be revised.

She expressed desire for extension of Health card  to all the Safai Karamcharis and also  enrollment of all to prepare Labour cards and regular  health check up should be made and camps should be arranged by the local bodies.

Moreover, she said  that  all Safai  Karamcharis should be given personal protective equipments and they should wear them at all times while working.
